It’s Time the School District Do the Same for Them.
There are many men and women who play an integral role in making Mount Vernon’s schools a safe and educational place for our children to be; this includes the school monitors. These dedicated men and women work hard each and every day in the cafeteria and the schoolyard. They ensure that fun in the schoolyard doesn’t turn to tragedy.
Unfortunately, their importance in our school system all too often goes overlooked, particularly by the Mount Vernon School Board. For the last year, they have been fighting for a fair union contract that recognizes their hard work by providing wage increases and certain important benefits, like paid sick time. Currently, school monitors feel that they have to chose between taking time to care for themselves and making ends meet, which can put the health of the children under their supervision at risk.
